            SB&T International Limited has strategically changed its focus to retailing from mainly exporting to wholesalers. The company has successfully taken initiatives towards this vision by aggressive forward integration plans to enter the high mark up retail segment by setting up retail stores also acting as hubs to reach the end customer through counter and internet sales. This initiative will also help SB&T in gradually eliminating wholesalers from their supply chain, thus benefiting the Company as well as the ultimate consumer.

In line with this strategy, SB&T International Limited acquired Soft Touch Jewellers LLC. (STJ), a chain of retail jewellery stores in the Middle East, through its wholly owned subsidiary, SB&T Holdings Limited, Mauritius in May 2000.

            Soft Touch Jewellers LLC (STJ), a chain of retail jewellery stores in the Middle East Soft Touch Jewellers LLC is a limited liability company incorporated in Dubai under the provisions of UAE Commercial Companies Law of 1984, as amended. The company operates from Dubai under a trade license issued by the Economic Department. The company was promoted and established in 1996 by Mr Sunil Talreja who has first hand knowledge and experience of international jewellery business.

            STJ has taken strategic initiatives to strengthen its position in the retail segment in the Middle East market. The rationale for venturing into retailing is the attractive margin available on retail sales and also the fact that the Middle East is a major centre for jewellery trade.

            STJ has strengthened its position in the retail segment by opening nine more outlets apart from the two retail outlets at the time of the take-over by SB&T. The nine retail outlets are leased in the hypermarket of "Carrefour" under an agreement. STJ now has eleven retail outlets – nine with "Carrefour" and two independent outlets – and one wholesale outlet.

*  Store Locations

            The wholesale store is located on 6th floor, Gold Center building, Gold Souq, Deira. The Gold Souk in Deira with about 250 gold retailers has such overwhelming volume, even the most discerning shopper cannot help but be mesmerized by the selection.

            Dubai has over 350 retail jewellers, 250 of them in the Gold Souk in Deira.  Dubai is probably the only jewellery centre in the world where you can get gold and jewellery from all the major centres in the world in all-major karatages. At any given point of time 10,000 kgs of gold available in the Dubai Market - which means the widest possible choice of gold and jewellery anywhere in the world. As per the Govt. Law each gold jewellery piece should have the karatage/fineness marked on it.

*  Other Emirates

* Ajman

            This smallest of the seven emirates with an area of just 260 sq kms is centrally located on the western coast of the UAE. Ajman also includes Masfut and Manama, two small enclaves inland in the Hajar mountains, rich in agriculture and farming. Like the other emirates Ajman too has a pleasant blend of the old and the new, the simple and the sophisticated. While beach combers could splash away in any one of the beautiful beaches of Ajman, bargain hunters could do well with a visit to the Ajman souk renowned for its architectural splendour. Ajman is also noted as the world's largest dhow building center, where these ocean-going vessels are built using traditional tools and manual skills.

*   Ras AL Khaimah

            This northernmost of all emirates, lying at the foot of the Hajar mountains and bordering the Sultanate of Oman to its north and east, is an important port, besides being one of the main agricultural centers. Between the sandy coastal plain to the west and the mountains to the north and east is a fertile land with farms producing a variety of fruits and vegetables including more than 45 different types of date palms.

            Scenic beauty is another feature of this emirate with its high mountains and natural hot springs, the water of which is known to have medicinal properties, as seen at the resort of Ain Khat.

*   Abu Dhabi

            This, the largest of the seven emirates making up the United Arab Emirates, constitutes nearly 80% of the nation's total land area including nearly 200 islands. The cities of Abu Dhabi (the capital of the U.A.E) and Al Ain, are the two largest in the emirates. While Abu Dhabi is a vibrant and captivating city with an impressive skyline, parks and gardens, luxury hotels, palatial villas and mansions, wide boulevards and beaches, Al Ain, the Garden City of the UAE, has an abundance of greenery with well-maintained parks and gardens. The oasis city, 148 kms from Abu Dhabi, also has a history dating back to 4 millennium BC.

*   Sharjah

            The third largest emirate covering an area of 2,600 sq kms, the emirate of Sharjah straddles the peninsula, overlooking the Arabian Gulf to the west and the Gulf of Oman to the east. This gives it the unique advantage of being geographically diverse. The emirates also boasts of some of the most diverse of sceneries and superb waterfronts.

            Sharjah is a blend of the old and new. In fact the City of Sharjah, lying on the Arabian Gulf, is chock-a-block with modern waterfront hotels, beautiful mosques, lakefront apartment buildings, restaurants, and well laid-out parks and gardens. Sharjah renowned for its souks, both traditional and new, is a virtual treat for bargain hunters. But arguably Sharjah's greatest draw is its local history, preserved at its very best in several well-maintained museums.
